The Day We Met Arnold Schwarzenegger
True Story
Donna H. and I were roommates in 1983. We worked at the same hospital as Medical Lab Technicians (lab rats). We became friends for life. One day, we heard that Arnold was going to be at a publicity event near us, and we were excited to meet Mr. America in person!
It was the usual thing you expect to see at a publicity stop: the celebrity, some pretty girl sitting next to him, his agent, and maybe some redundant bodyguards — like Arnold, would need a bodyguard!
There was a line for the autograph seekers, that being me and Donna, to stand and wait our turn to get in front of his amazing masculine presence. The line was pretty short, considering who we were all anxious to see. In 1983 Arnold was known for his hunky muscles, not his acting talent, which came around when he starred in movies like The Terminator!
The line moved quickly, and then it was our turn! Arnold was signing copies of his workout photos and would then hand the photo to the fan in front of him. Donna received her photo after me and asked, “Is this all you are doing today?”.
Arnold replied,
“What do you want me to do”?
