Every meeting with my doctoral chair is one fraught with anxiety, ridicule, and wonder.

A doctoral chair holds much of the student’s life in the palm of their hand. Not really, that’s quite an overstatement. When a doctoral student finishes their course work, they are considered ABD — all done but dissertation. The course work is hard, but the dissertation is a different level of a mental burden.
