Sam and I in front of Po’ Monkey Lounge // Merigold, MS

Over the weekend, Sam and I went out in search of old (new to us) Mississippi Delta landmarks. After visiting The Peavine Branch in Boyle, we made our way up US 61 to Merigold and right off the highway sits Po’ Monkey Lounge. At first glance, one would definitely think its a thing of the past but those that are from around the area and attend every weekend, know otherwise. I have heard Po’ Monkey’s is a happening hotspot on Saturday nights for locals (and even a few Delta State students every now and then) and with it being Sunday morning, there was not a soul in sight. Must have been a long night…

This was almost best for our assignment because neither of us like the ‘bar scene’ all that much and wouldn’t have felt comfortable meandering among the local nightlife of the MS Delta. So, instead of pushing through the throngs of people dancing, we shuffled our feet through the rocks that surrounded this country bar and took only about a million photos together (thank God for timers).

One of my favorite things about our trip to Po’ Monkey’s, were the signs that littered the outside of the building. Some were your normal ‘NO LOITERING’ signs but others were a little more unique like the ones below.

NOT LIKE THIS and NOT LIKE THAT // Po’ Monkey Lounge // Merigold, MS

This weekend has been one of my favorites because not only did it include one of my favorite pastimes, exploring the world around me, but it was experienced with one of my favorite people.

Go out. Get lost. You never know what you may find.
