Mission Control is one of the most exciting testnets that we’ve joined recently, and The Graph Network one of the most promising projects that is creating an important pillar of the Web 3.0: a decentralized indexing protocol.

About The Graph

The mission of The Graph is to enable internet applications that are entirely powered by public infrastructure. And they plan to help make that a reality by facilitating a frictionless experience and better performance for users of the decentralized web by replacing centralized indexing servers with a decentralized query protocol.

The current process of querying a blockchain network for data requires users to trust centralized servers administrators to pull data from Ethereum, store it in a database, and then offer it via API. The current decentralized alternative is way too cumbersome for average users, requiring unreasonable loading times. This forced developers to choose between developing an app that performs well and offers a great experience for their users, or a decentralized app that empowers their users.

The Graph is looking to help developers overcome this challenge and build Dapps that are resilient and independent from rent-seeking third parties, by becoming the query and API layer of Web3. To date, ~2,000 APIs called Subgraphs have been deployed for applications like Aragon, Uniswap, Synthetix, Balancer, Gnosis, Balancer, Livepeer, and Decentraland. Developers build and publish these open APIs, called subgraphs, that applications can query using GraphQL. There’s also a hosted service in production that makes it easier for developers to get started building on The Graph

Web3 needs a strong foundation that can support a fully decentralized web that performs as seamlessly as the centralized one if it truly wants to replace it. The Graph Network will become one of the pillars of this decentralized infrastructure layer that allows Dapps to run smoothly, offer impeccable UX, and gain traction. Right now, the network supports indexing data from Ethereum, POA, and IPFS, but more networks will be included as the project grows.

The Graph supports 4 different types of roles that interact with each other and the network:

  • Consumers are the ones that benefit from the work that the Indexers provide and are the ones that reward them. Consumers pay Indexers for queries. They will most likely be the end-users.
  • Indexers. Indexers are node operators that help secure the network in order to gain rewards.
  • Curators. Curators are responsible for letting the network know what subgraphs are valuable to index.
  • Delegators. Delegators stake their GRT tokens with an Indexer and get rewarded for their contribution, along with the Indexer.

About Mission Control

Mission Control is The Graph Network’s incentivized testnet which launched at the end of July. Dokia Capital is participating and is looking forward to taking on the role of an Indexer for the five phases of the testnet. We’re also committed to own up to our role as Indexer when the decentralized mainnet launches, later this year.

Dokia Capital will join other Indexers in operating nodes, completing missions, accomplishing specific objectives, and contributing to the overall success of the testnet. We are looking forward to performing not only individually, but collectively, as we collaborate and compete.
