The President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz Canel, arrived in New York at noon to begin an intense official agenda in the context of the 73rd UN General Assembly where he will hold bilateral meetings with leaders from all over the world and intervene in the main official forums. He will also be holding meetings with friends from the United States.

On his first full day in the United States, Díaz Canel will speak at the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit and at the General Assembly on September 26; 58 years after Fidel’s first speech here.

The Cuban president will be the fifteenth head of state to speak at the world conclave in which is dedicated to commemorating the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. On this occasion, former Ecuadorian Foreign Minister María Fernanda Espinosa will officiate as the President of the Plenary.

On Monday he will also be meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and have a conversation with Bill de Blasio, mayor of New York.
