In choosing to work with BunkerVFX, Domi has chosen to work with the very best!

Domi Online Cinematic behind the scenes

BunkerVFX have been making commercials and cinematics featuring groundbreaking visuals since 2014, during which time they have worked with some of the best known gaming franchises worldwide to communicate the true spirit of every game they promote.

World-famous consumer brands Seagate and Turtle Beach, as well as the teams from blockbuster games including Doom Eternal, Angry Birds Match, Plants VS Zombies Garden Warfare 2, The Evil Within 2, and many others have worked with BunkerVFX to bring to life the vision they have for the unique experiences their products and games provide.

With a body of work that places them at the top of the heap in producing thrilling video game cinematics, BunkerVFX bring their magic touch to the cinematic reveal of Domi Online. We at Domi couldn’t be more thrilled at the results of this creative collaboration and we hope that our community joins us in the belief that the cinematic trailer intended to reveal Domi Online to the wider world precisely captures the spirit that Domi promises to breathe back into the realm of the MMORPG.

Inspiration and Vision

As our community is by now well aware, Domi does things differently. For the cinematic trailer, our cofounder PelleK had this to say:

We wanted the cinematic to visualize what we’re trying to do differently in Domi vs other MMORPGs nowadays. The video shows the mundane nature of most MMORPGs in which things such as teleporting mechanics, level caps and the lack of serious consequences for character death leave the gameplay loop feeling repetitive and unrewarding.

Domi Online was born from a desire to do a classic MMORPG the right way, with no skill cap or level cap to impede a player’s progress and incorporating a system in which character death has true consequences, resulting in a gaming experience that keeps the action ever fresh through rewarding real risk taking. In every detail, Domi is the hardcore experience dedicated players have been waiting for!

Reflecting Domi’s focus, PelleK continues:

We wrote a script in which a warrior comes from a world where he is forced to live a life that feels meaningless to him. He’s depressed and broken down and, even upon dying, he feels the same, as though his life had been without consequence. So we focused a lot on his eyes and his emotions.

Traditional MMORPGs have fallen prey to the allure of adding shortcuts to gameplay, resulting in a gaming experience that too often feels repetitive and dull. While designing worlds intended to break expectations about possible experiences, traditional MMORPGs too often break with their own realities. Mounts and fast travel limit the sense of immersion and the risks involved in moving across the map, disincentivizing careful planning and attention to the immediate needs of the character. Domi is designed throughout to immerse the player in the world that their character inhabits.

PelleK concludes:

Of course it’s still an MMORPG and there is a lot of fighting in the game, so when the warrior is sent to the world of Domi, we include a battle scene with all four playable characters. The main focus, however, is on the way our Warrior transcends his apathy and depression to feel renewed excitement and the adventurous spirit when given the chance to regain his strength to face real risk on his new journey.

In Domi, character progress is completely integrated with the realities of the world. Players are faced with a realm filled with wonder and peril, and the path that they choose truly determines their fate. Free of caps and resets dominated by schedules of DLC and expansions rather than by the player’s own efforts, Domi rewards the bold, granting all who heed the call to adventure with the opportunity to rise through the ranks and to ultimate domination!

Digging into the Details

Drawing inspiration from awesome examples across a range of media, the cinematic provides a detailed look at the key character classes that bring a sense of realism to the world of Domi Online.

Character classes include Priest, Amazon, Warrior, and Sorceress

Bringing a character to life involves many steps across multiple disciplines. Starting with concept art, the team at BunkerVFX brought a distinct personality to each of the unique Domi character classes.

Concept art for Amazon

Attention to detail in physiognomy, hair style, clothing, and accessories are all key to creating a model capable of expressing the emotional nuances the Domi cinematic is intended to convey. This work is meticulously married to motion capture and composited with a rich visual and sonic environment.

Character clothing and accessories

The Domi cinematic brings together the Priest, Amazon, Warrior, and Sorceress classes, representing their distinct roles as they join in an epic battle with a fearsome dragon rising from the depths of the world itself. From the mundane activity of mining coal to the valiant charge into the fray, we see our protagonist find the spirit of adventure rekindled deep within himself, just as Domi promises to reignite interest in the the old-school, hardcore MMORPG experience gamers today crave.

Coming Soon to Domi

Things have been on fire at Domi Online, with a constant stream of patches and with participation in the closed alpha providing invaluable data and feedback paving the way for future updates. The Domi open alpha, with unrestricted player access, opens shortly. This experience will provide the opportunity for everyone interested in Domi to get an early look at the wonders the team have wrought and to be among those contributing to refining the experience of the finished product to be release in the future.

In addition to opening the alpha, Domi will be adding multiplayer playability and integrating digital collectibles into Domi alpha gameplay. These landmark features complete the bedrock upon which future Domi gameplay will take place, both opening the social experience of the world of Domi and bringing true ownership of in-game assets to the players themselves.

And last but not least, $DOMI holders can look forward to internal staking arriving to Domi Online. Staking $DOMI will provide unique in-game assets unobtainable through other means, setting involved community members apart from the pack in the quest for domination. The team has put a lot of thought into the Domi economy and staking will play a vital role in rewarding players for the time and energy they spend in making Domi Online the amazing shared experience it is meant to be.

“A ragged warrior is tired of death and meaningless battles, his days reduced to regrets, moral dilemmas and existential dread… What if there was a magical reality offering new purpose and glory through swinging swords and casting spells? Well, we dipped our feet in the world of DOMI, our purpose found in creating fantastical environments, characters that ooze personality and monsters that breathe terror. While glory might still be some way off for us, the sense of pride upon finishing this cinematic can hardly be challenged by anything.” — Ana Uzelac (Project Supervisor, Producer, Art Director)
