Today’s verse: Psalm 44:18

Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;

Some marriages are the product of 'love at first sight’. Other persons prayed patiently, fasted fervently, hoped and waited month after month, year after year until finally God sent that special someone.

The way you came to meet and be joined to your spouse should not be taken lightly.

You have both vowed to be partners on a lifelong journey. A journey that will have good times and bad times.

During the good times it’s easy to keep going. When finances are fine, good health prevails, passion is in fashion and everything seems balanced and working in your favour a marriage is in cruise mode. You need little effort to keep going.

At other times when financial difficulties overwhelm you, ill-health steals your joy and everything seems to be out of balance. During these times you need to exert extra effort to keep going.

Sometimes it feels as though you are heading up a steep hill or swimming upstream. In times like these, don’t stop, don’t turn back, stick to your spouse and keep going.

In Psalm 44 David reminisced on the good times. He recounted all the things that God had done for his foreparents and how He blessed them and sustained them.

This was during a time when things were really difficult. It was so hard to keep going it felt as though God had abandoned His people.

It was in this difficult time that David pledged "Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way"

In difficult times you and your spouse may need to make the same pledge that David did. You may have to determine that,

Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way.

Stick to each other.

Don’t turn back!

Just keep going.
