Too often I hear “All I need now is $1M and everything will work out”.

You can say that, if you already have validated the business idea with your target audience, and you have your team in place.

But if all you have is an idea, then, no.

Entrepreneurs mistakenly go for the money first, and have a cunning plan on how the then will both acquire customers as well as the competence they need to build and release.

Stop focusing on the money. Find your customers, run trial, pilots, betas whatever, get some rapport and traction, find the people you need to build and release, then when you have something to show, then you ask for money.
