Ok so a slightly click-baity heading, sorry for that, but when talking about experience, please make sure you mean “have done something, been somewhere AND learned something, evolved, grew, moved on”, and not just “I was there” or “I have done that before”.

Someone might say “Oh I have 10 years experience of doing that”.

But does that mean accumulated learning over 10 years? where every year reprsented growth and evolution?

Or does it simply mean they have done the same thing over and over again for 10 years? Is it the same 1 year 10 times?

Don’t simply look at the number of years someone has done something, look at what they have learned, from where they came and where they went, where they are today compared to back then.

And the same goes for when you are talking about yourself, like when writing a CV or similar, what have you actually learned by doing things and being places?
