Hi! We are Donut Lab and we are developing Donut Punks (ex Kids vs Zombies) mobile shooter. Bold artwork is one of the pillars of our ambitious project. So we are here to share what our artists created this year.

Characters

In the beginning of 2021 we decided to change the focus of our game and abandoned the idea of customizable, yet impersonal characters. Instead, we created a gang of unique characters with their own traits and skills. Each kid still has the ability to change their appearance using various customization items.

Many of them reflect the essence of the characters. For example, Dizlike is a blogger who is obsessed with selfies and always carries around her Instagun to take viral photos (and to kill zombies). On Christmas Eve she spends all the time shopping. And sometimes she just wants to relax and get some beauty treatments.

Another character, Pooper, is known for his nonconformist views. He won’t miss an opportunity to dig through garbage and ruin someone’s mood. Because why not?

And here’s Freezie. He hangs out withan anxious snowman, who can’t stand violence and that’s why he turns away from the in-game mayhem.

Meet Sleepie. He can’t get enough sleep, because he’s busy throughout the day (feeding birds, killing zombies, etc.) and at night he’s anxious to get some “me time”. Yet he manages to nap a little as you can see in the picture.

Customization

Each character in Donut Punks has their own stand to look cooler and a grave — sort of a farewell message when losing a battle.

At the beginning of 2021 we had only a couple of default stands and graves. But as the time went by the amount of customization items dramatically increased. For example, all new players now get a potty and a pacifier- themed gravestone (which we named “Aw, baby gonna cry?”) instead of a rusty barrel and a generic headstone.

Some of the items are inspired by our character’s propensities:

Some look creepy and ambiguous. If you can guess what reference that was used for this soap, you will not be eaten by zombies. And if you can see only a bone in the ice, you are truly of sound mind.

Time to get into the Christmas mood! This year was troublesome even for Santa, and he failed to pull himself together. But that doesn’t mean he will skip the celebrations!

Social networks

We create artwork not only for the game, but for our social network accounts as well.

This is picture was drawn to celebrate the Junk Food Day. Some of our characters are really into it!

Exercise? More like “Extra fries”!

We also celebrated the beginning of the school year. Well, actually, in the post-apocalyptic world of Donut Punks there are no schools left, and you don’t have to study… That’s why we were celebrating!

And here is a picture for the Thanksgiving. Why not show some respect for turkeys? We did!

Moving on! Here are some pictures from the presentation of our in-game crypto, Zombie-koin. Look at the charts, investing definitely seems like a good idea.

And finally, a short story. And a presentation of a new location. Guess, what’s going on here?

Wallpapers

We love games and we love to build entirely new worlds in them. So we made these wallpapers to tell more stories about our characters and to spend more time with them. Catch fullsize here!

Animated pictures

Static pictures take lots of effort, needless to say animation is even more challenging. So, let’s see what our animators did this year.

First of all, meet Gordei, Donut Lab CEO. We’ve added his zombified version to the game, so you can fight him as one of the location bosses, while he can oversee the development of the game from the inside.

Another boss enemy is mister M. We can’t tell you his real name, but you can surely guess who he is.

When ordering fries next time, don’t forget to ask for sauce!

Sometimes enemies are even closer than you think. Here is an example. Grinch is hiding in the bag of one of the playable characters.

And finally, the icing on the cake. Check out these short videos. Our whole team pooled their efforts to make them: artists, animators, managers (and even our toy-pigeon). Please enjoy:

Sleepie is having trouble staying awake, but he has a knack for engineering.
This is Tweech, and he never plays on easy mode.

So, this has been a recap of our artwork in 2021, but we are already thinking about the future: creating even more fun, entertaining and exciting works. Thank you for reading and Happy New Year!
