Another way to visualize your GitHub stats is here 🙌

Recently, I found out that people are visualizing their GitHub stats quite a lot with github-readme-stats. This is a really awesome project that visualizes our contributions.

I think most of the developers found the above images quite often when looking at someone’s GitHub pages.

Inspired by the project, I felt like I wanted to work on visualizing them that contain my philosophy as a developer.

First of all, I would like to briefly share the growth process that I’ve experienced as a developer during my 10+ years of development experience.

1. Curiosity

Before I dive into learning software development, the most important skill at the moment was curiosity. My first job was as a researcher. Therefore, nobody actually pressed me to be a software engineer.

I wanted to do well while indirectly doing development work, so I’ve started to spend time learning them.

2. Passion

Then what I needed was a passion. Without moving forward to use passion, I felt like I keep walking on a running machine.

I also saw many others escaping after revealing a few curiosities. I thought that this is a failure. We should go to the next step which is passion!

3. Patience and persistence

After challenging the development project with so much enthusiasm, a hard time came for me. I started to feel tired or mentally exhausted. Many people started to fall apart at this moment. They usually stop developing or not improving themselves.

I needed “Patience and persistence”.

4. Achievements

Now is the time to check my achievements. See how much development influence I have had on people or how many results I have shown. How many stars you’ve got on Github? What have you developed so far? Is your development really worth it?

Check all your achievements with a sober eye. Do not exaggerate.

5. Wisdom and Insights

With all the work I’ve achieved, my developmental horizons have broadened and it has become increasingly clear what more I need to do in the future.

I believe that repeating the above 5 steps will make me become a better dev and also a valuable human being.

Finally, I would like to show you how we visualized the above five + one.

You can visit dooboo.io, to see what you have, and below is the result.

I’ve translated 5 elements below. They go clockwise from two o’clock.

Tree = Curiosity
Fire = Passion
Earth = Patience and persistence
Gold = Achievements
Water = Wisdom and insights
People = Average of 5 elements (Water and gold are more weighted)

You can also check the advanced mode with your top languages.

Now what?

Paste your GitHub stats to your GitHub readme.

Any feedback would be appreciated. We hope that the article and the results will be interesting in any sense.

Thanks for reading 🙏

P.S The GitHub trophies are out too!
