The Story

As a member of the DeGods community, I’ve had a blast watching highlights clips of Frank Nitty, Donte Greene and Josh Powell.

On subject, here’s what happened when I stopped by the KrauseHouse Discord yesterday. Right on time as they were attacking our style. They’re the owners of the Ball Hogs.

Yeah, it’s all good guys! No offense taken!

I’ll get back to you after you lose to us on Sunday.

As part of writing up this giant index (let’s just say it took “a number of hours”), I got a great top-level summary of all the players, teams, coaches and ownership groups in the Big3.

Now don’t get me wrong, when the Killer 3’s play I’m gonna be all-in with the rest of the DeGods but . . .

Honestly I think the narrative for the Aliens and their Olympic 3x3 pedigree really stands out.

I keep it real I guess.

Before DeGods purchased the Killer 3’s, I had honestly never heard of the Big3 — yes, this has since been fixed and then some with this monstrosity of research.

But then like a Russian doll that kept revealing more layers inside . . . it turns out 3x3 basketball is an Olympic sport!

And according to both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, Dusan Bulut is the undisputed GOAT.

He was pretty fast to be gracious about it to me on Twitter! I was impressed by that level of class.

Seriously. This resume tho:

4x FIBA 3x3 World Tour Champion (2014, 2015, 2018, 2019)
2x FIBA 3x3 World Tour MVP (2015, 2018)
2x FIBA 3x3 World Cup MVP (2016, 2018)
4x Gold Medals in 3x3 Basketball World Cup (2012, 2016, 2017, 2018)
2x Gold Medals in 3x3 Basketball European Championships (2018, 2019)

That second article from the WSJ has an interesting story of how much Bulut wanted to be a part of the Big3, but he had to maneuver through the red tape of FIBA’s rules in order to play in the Olympic debut of 3x3 in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

So he made the difficult decision to put the Big3 on hold. He was able to represent his native Serbia in the Olympics, play his way to a bronze medal, and then finally play in the Big3.

His trademark move is The Bulut — a Shammgod with the ball going between the legs of his opponent.

Spoiler: it’s too fast to see in real time, so wait for the slo-mo replay to see what he did there.

It’s uhh . . . I’ll just say it’s more humiliating than getting dunked on.

Here’s a step-by-step How To from the man himself if you’d like to try to put it into your arsenal.

2021 was his first year finally getting to play in the Big3, and he put up an excellent rookie campaign with the Power: #6 in field goal percentage, #7 in points per game, #9 in three point percentage.

Hey remember when Bulut had to put the Big3 on hold to play in the Olympics? He won a Bronze Medal with Team Serbia, which is a great accomplishment.

But the Latvian team won the Gold.

Kārlis Lasmanis was that team’s top scorer in the Olympic tournament.

They’ve spent a lot of time on the court as rivals.

And . . . now Lasmanis is Bulut’s teammate on the Aliens.

Tamas Ivosev rounds out the Aliens Top 3 - he’s a long-time teammate of Bulut on the Novi Said 3x3 squad.

They were the GOATs of 3x3. None other than The Sporting News compared Novi Said’s dominance to the 1992 USA Dream Team, the Los Angeles Sparks era led by Lisa Leslie, John Wooden’s UCLA Championship teams, UCONN Women’s Basketball in the 2010s, and the 1960s Boston Celtics championship dynasty.

To round it all out, the Aliens have an accomplished coach in Rick Mahorn.

In the 2017 inaugural season for the Big3, Mahorn led the Trilogy to the league’s first championship with an undefeated record.

You don’t have to guess who won Coach of the Year.

This isn’t a fluke on his coaching resume: Mahorn also won two WNBA Championships as an Assistant Coach on the Detroit Shock.

The same city he played for as a key member of the 1989 NBA Champion “Bad Boy” Detroit Pistons. “McNasty” along with Bill Laimbeer set the tone for the most unapologetically physical team in the history of the league.

Meme Game: 10/10

You can’t fade the meme game here. $DOGE set the standard, brought home the championship this cycle and retained after a challenge from $SHIB.

The official Aliens Twitter account is stepping up:

They’re got every aspect of the game covered in the front court. The question is going to be whether or not their community can step up to the meme game at the level of DeGods.

We’re the most passionate community in Web3 with a crazy amount of talented people consistently dunking on the competition from Day 1 to elevate our meme game to the next level.

DeGods community member @RippityDoo has been running point guard all pre-season, putting us all in a position to put meme points on the board. And we’ve been tipping him 33.3 $DUST in return.

The $DOGE community might be the Web3 King of Memes, but DeGods ain’t no $SHIB.

Bring it.
