If you’ve been tracking transgender rights stories in the United States, you may already know that Missouri is poised to become the first state to actively restrict gender-affirming care from all trans people—including adults—in the state any day now. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey unilaterally announced emergency measures to restrict this care from all trans people in the “Show Me” state, claiming this draconian action would ensure people to “have all the information necessary to make good decisions.” This despite the fact that medical professionals overwhelmingly agree that access to gender-affirming care is imperative for the health and mental well-being of our transgender friends and family.

Back in March, in preparation for already brutal proposed legislation, which aimed to restrict care from trans youths in the state, Bailey’s office hosted a form on the Attorney General’s site to serve as a digital “tip line” where Missourians could report any “complaint or concern” they had about gender-affirming care within the state. Given the open nature of the form and the AG’s broader focus upon all transgender Missourians, critics increasingly raised alarms about this…
