Threads Debuts With Significant Privacy Issues

Meta just made quite a splash with Threads, but what are the hidden privacy issues you may not be aware of?

Well, Meta’s alternative to Twitter, Threads, certainly took off with a bang, didn’t it? 30 million signups overnight? Of course, Meta did have the smarts to launch the new platform off the back of Instagram, where many folks have amassed huge followings already. And they did make hopping onto the new space very, very easy. (Ahem, Mastodon.)

But the launch isn’t without issues both small and large. Many complained about the lack of a pure reverse-chronological “following” feed (coming soon, says Meta!). There’s no real search (coming soon!), no hashtags (coming soon!), no ability to helm multiple accounts (coming soon!), and so on. Also, notably, as of this moment, you cannot delete your Threads account without deleting your Instagram account, as well, so tightly are they connected. And a ban from Threads means a ban from Instagram, too. That’s not at all clear when you first sign up.

There’s a much bigger problem afoot with Threads, tho, and that involves your privacy.
