Chance run-ins on the road
New York City has a gravitational pull all its own. If it isn’t considered the capital of the world by most people, it would probably place in the top five. Aah — the Big Apple. Start spreading the news. Even numerous songs have been written lauding my home metropolis.
In keeping with the city’s reputation, all manner of people from around the world come here to live or visit. And it’s not just the 65,000 immigrant who deliver food for outfits like DoorDash or Uber Eats along with one American (me). Celebrities can be spotted in New York as well.
Hoping to attract tv and film productions to New York’s streets for filming their projects, the city has offered sweet deals to executives in the field and have succeeded mightily in the pursuit.
Given that my delivery territory is “Lower Manhattan,” and I generally work the Greenwich Village area (where I live), I roll by movie and tv sets on a daily basis.
I see the signage — and the trucks that say “Edge” and Haddad” routinely along with the crew almost always dressed down in t-shirts sporting obscure logos of someplace that had a few hundred printed up to advertise their business.
