RELEAF AT YOUR FINGERTIPS: A New App May Revolutionize Cannabis Consumption
Have you ever smoked cannabis that simply did not agree with you, or some that was the best you’ve ever had, but then you forgot what it was, and where you got it? Well, don’t worry: there’s an app for that.
Releaf is a new application that is changing the way modern cannabis patients use their medicine. Designed to keep track of each cannabis smoke session, it allows you to input relevant information, including strain, type of medication (i.e. edible, tincture, topical, flower, concentrate, etc.), the dispensary/grower/company, as well as how the strain affects you, from first puff to the end of your sesh.
The app was created by Franco Brockelman, partners Branden Hall and Keenan Keeling, along with the creative development and design team at Automata Studios. It all started when Brockelman’s mother began to struggle with severe arthritis, psoriasis and depression due to constant pain. Medical cannabis helped her, but there wasn’t available information on how cannabis actually works, with most patients relying heavily on strain names to get their desired effects. Unfortunately, variation in growing techniques can change the effects of each individual plant, regardless of what it’s called, leading to patient dissatisfaction.
Brockelman got to work creating the Releaf App to help patients everywhere, including his mother, live better, more fulfilling lives by tracking their cannabis use, and understanding the specific compounds present in each strain. The app is designed to be discreet, effective and so easy your mom could use it.
Not only is Releaf helping patients, patients are helping Releaf! By sharing their statistical information anonymously (which is NOT required to use the app), patients supply much-needed information to connect dispensaries and researchers, which will then lead to better budtending, more effective cannabis use by patients and more consistent methods of cultivation and processing across the United States.
Releaf is currently based in Washington, D.C., and is partnered with six dispensaries, though they hope to keep growing their network. “We saw this as an opportunity to do some real good in this world,” says Brockleman. And I couldn’t agree more.
