Siyuan Hua, the DOS Network CEO and co-founder was invited as a special guest and instructor to attend Hackathon held by ETHPLANET on August 24th and 25th in Shenzhen.

The venue was filled with dozens of developers who responded to our call and were eager to get exposed to more state-of-the-art blockchain technologies. Now let’s see what we have been up to during those 2 days and 1 night.

The hackathon started with a speech delivered by Siyuan introducing the use of the DOS Network oracle including the workflow, the process of fetching the specified off-chain data and providing smart contracts with distributed, secure and unpredictable random numbers that are generated off-chain, as well as the process of utilizing DOS Network’s testnet browser to assist with development and debug.

For more information and documentation details for developers, please check the slides here (In Chinese).

Next, the head of Status in China, Jiangnan introduced the Status communication software and the development tool-Embark. He emphasized the status development and deployment of the decentralized application EmbarK to the Hacker, including its powerful command line, modular design, excellent mission control, etc. Check details here.

Then, the CFO of Stake.fish shared the development of the mining pool. The F2Pool has risen rapidly since it was launched in 2015, becoming the world’s top mining pool from 2014 to 2016. After 2017, two things have changed the mining pool: the mining pool codes are open source; the transaction costs have increased, and the mining industry has reached the era of PPS+ and FPPS. At the same time, with the development of the PoS consensus and the increasing use of PoS networks in projects, the infrastructures based on PoS have emerged and PoS pools have begun to emerge. Check details here.

Finally, Chao Qi, the Operations Director of Celer Network introduced the application of the Layer 2 universal status channel based on the Ethereum main network to the hackers. Celer Network is committed to making it easy and convenient for developers to develop off-chain DApps, helping developers quickly build and run decentralized applications. Qi Chao emphasized CelerX Game Developer and the current situation of Gomoku, a game created by Celer team. Check details here.

Then, hackers asked questions and teamed up freely.

After a long discussion and development, the hackers showed their work in the afternoon of the 25th.

First came the show by developer Yadong with the theme of “Tradings based on blockchain consensus”. He established a model of both sides of the trading and demonstrated the difficulties and pain points. He proposed that the blockchain trading should focus on the trust problem on the internet rather than competing the speed with the traditional Internet.

The second team is Simulight. The name of their result is “Etheruem-based donation platform”. The pain point of the traditional charitable donation platform is the lack of trust caused by centralization and opacity. Implementing the charity platform using blockchain technology can establish a perfect trust mechanism between the charity platform and the donors with its decentralization and transparency mechanism. However, the instructor pointed out that this project also has defects. The information of the fundraiser is still difficult to verify, including identity, family conditions, etc. However, the team believed that with the development of the blockchain, everyone’s medical information and personal information can be stored on the chain.

The third team LukyU brought us the prospect of blockchain + lottery business. The traditional lottery industry faces two major problems. First, the lottery mechanism is opaque; Second, the confidentiality of the identity of the winners. These two points can be addressed by blockchain technology. The blockchain guarantees the rights of the winners and the lottery holders with its unique trust mechanism and anonymity mechanism. The instructors pointed out a small flaw of their project at the same time: the random lottery mechanism has a relatively large possibility of being attacked or hacked.

The fourth team showed their project — — Go-Ticket. The Go-Ticket team has put forward some interesting innovations for our current event registration mechanism. The deposits of event registration are collected into the smart contract, and then will be redistributed to the attendees. What’s more interesting is that in the free event, if the number of people paying the deposit is more than the number of people present, the attendees can make a small profit.

Finally, the fifth team showcased their work — — Realscloud. The Realscloud team wanted to bring a project that was close to life and able to take advantage of the blockchain, so they combined the blockchain with the red packets. Although the project concept is simple, their sentiments were profound.

After the presentation from all the five teams, the instructors rated the results of them, and finally the three teams stood out and received the rewards from the organizers.

  • The Simulight team received the best completion award
  • The Go-Ticket team received the best creation award
  • The LukyU team received the best display award

Congratulations to the winners of ETHPLANET Hackathon Shenzhen!

As the Ethereum community continues to grow and more and more talented people join in, the hackathon is the perfect method to reflect the creativity and skills of hackers. Furthermore, the charm of hackathon is to attract a variety of people to participate in activities to create things that make the world a better place. The spirit of hackathon is learning, creating and sharing.

DOS Network was honored to attend and sponsor this amazing event. We were also happy to share our insights and interact with all the hackers. Hope we will see you again in the next event in the near future!
