If the last eighteen months has taught me anything it has taught me that the world I was born into — where the moral arc of the universe bent reluctantly yet steadily toward justice — was an anomaly.

The foundation of the will to power, of greed, of ego, of toxic individuality is stronger than the witness of my five decades on this planet would suggest. I’m a latecomer. These things I thought won are in fact never so. They are to be maintained, cultivated, nurtured so as to protect them from the vigilant weed laying dormant, waiting for the gardeners to think their work complete.
