The Pros and Cons of Writing Platforms

Comparing Medium, Vocal, Simily and Elephant Journal

I wanted to write about the pros and cons of the various writing platforms I’ve used since I discovered these sorts of platforms back in December 2020 (which feels like a whole lifetime ago!).

I started off with writing on Elephant Journal, the website platform focused on the ‘mindful life’.

I wrote for them for 9 months and then realized they weren’t the best fit for me, for a variety of reasons, which is when I moved on to greener pastures and discovered Vocal.Media in August 2021, then Medium in September and now in January the newest of these platforms, Simily.

Here’s my pros and cons of each platform based on these categories.

Images — are they easy to add ?— i.e. is there an available database like Unsplash etc

Titles — can you use your own? Are there specific rules?

Interaction — built-in — comments and other forms of interaction/engagement with fellow users
