Unemployed People, Hawaii Is Literally Begging You To Go Work There
You get a job! And YOU get a job! EVERYBODY gets a job in HAWAIIIIIII
In Hawaii, more than 1600 teachers will retire at the end of the 2016 school year. To fill this deficit, they’re opening up teaching positions to college grads, and you DON’T NEED A TEACHING CERTIFICATE.
Basically, Hawaii is the world capital of old people — hence, the 1600+ vacancies. If you have a bachelor’s degree and ANY experience with children (babysitting, camp counselor, etc.) you’re considered a pretty high contender for a teaching position.
Hawaii is inviting the hoards of unemployed millennials to come get jobs!
They’re tapping potential teachers in big cities like L.A., New York, Portland, and Chicago, but anyone can apply.
They are hiring for all grades, but especially special education, science and math.
You might be like “Wait, but I studied English and Art History!” Don’t fret, the Hawaii Department of Education is hiring for accredited teachers (education majors) and also unaccredited teachers (everybody else).
Which means, even if you majored in urban planning with a minor in poetry, you are totally eligible to live it up in Hawaii, land of Lilo, Stitch, Jack Johnson and his chill vibes, really cheap produce, and never-ending sunshine.
While certain aspects of the island lifestyle are pretty pricey, the most fun parts (hiking, snorkeling, sunbathing, oh and SURFING) are cheap/free.
Bonus: Hawaii is the healthiest, least stressful state to live in, with the lowest rates of obesity and diabetes and the highest levels of exercise.
High levels of exercise and healthy diets are what happens when it’s warm outside all the time, and when produce is locally grown on a large scale.
And yes, sometimes children are the absolute worst.
But a year of teaching means that 1) You will also encounter kids who are NOT the worst and 2) you will have enough “Kids Say the Darndest Things” stories to become the life of the party back on the mainland.

The average teacher’s salary in Hawaii is $54k. They need you, they want you, and it would be an adventure all year long! Go avoid unemployment in a tropical paradise!
