This is not an April Fools joke!

March has welcomed spring and a lot of exciting progress which we will be covering in this development report!

We’ve made tremendous progress on Dot Browser which we cannot wait to tell you about!

Dot Shield

Did you know our ad-blocker blocks a whopping 1.7 million ads & trackers?

We’ve pushed even harder than last month, and it has paid off; Dot Shield received a 100% rating* at blocking ads and trackers; that is pretty good if you ask me. Not to mention, Shield is pretty much complete!

*Rating based on https://adblock-tester.com/ in fresh Dot Browser profile with no add-ons and Firefox Tracking Protection disabled.

Icons

Out with the old, in with the new!

We have completed replacing Firefox’s default icons with our new sparkling ones. This includes context menus, the top bar(s), etc. Even more exciting, this isn’t the only design progress we’ve made this month.

Complete Redesign of the UI

We are thrilled to announce we’ve finally created a design we feel is perfect. We’ve started to introduce the redesign into the latest build of Dot Browser; although the implementation still has a long way to go, we are very proud of the progress we’ve made.

Dot Builds

We are very excited to announce Dot Browser has successfully been built on Linux, macOS, and Windows! 🥳 We now have more time to focus on our visions, not just trying to get Dot to build successfully. (Special thanks to Lokey for helping us build Dot on macOS.)

No More Google

The writer of this loves ducks.

For many good reasons, we’ve decided to switch Dot’s default search engine from Google to DuckDuckGo. DuckDuckGo is a search engine that provides the user with control over their privacy. This change helps us reach our goal of providing privacy to all users. (You can still change the default search engine in settings.)

Wrap up

Thank you for reading!

Stay tuned for our April 2021 Development Report, coming out (you guessed it), 1st May 2021!
