Team Spirit is the champion of The International 10, congratulations to the CIS region.

Let’s see how the meta develops.

There are fewer matches in the main stage, teams are more likely to stay in their comfort zone, and because Team Spirit played lots of games in the lower bracket run (20/50), their picks massively affected the results.

Seriously the meta did not change a lot, many popular heroes are the same as the group stage, I will focus more on the changes.

Games: 50
Total Heroes: 121
Picked: 96
Banned: 91
Untouched: 18

The increase at 45 ~ 70% clearly shows that teams are picking more comfort zone heroes

Tiny, Monkey King and Io were banned a lot at the early main event, but the low win rate of Io made its contest rate drop at the later stage.

Magnus was the star of TI, everybody talks about him post-TI. Everyone knows about the low cooldown short cast time huge AOE Horn Toss, and the extra long-range Skewer due to the 20 level talent, it is a total 1625 range, which can still be buffed by items.

10 Bans of Mars was against Team Spirit, teams believed he is the best hero of Collapse.

Tidehunter is also a reliable position 3, with the purge from Kraken Shell, a Ravage counter initiation is almost guaranteed, which is useful to break the enemy spike in a team fight and reset the tempo.

Highest Win Rate Heroes (pick ≥ 3 )

Bane is great early game support, he trades well with most of the support, Enfeeble is great on any physical damage dealer, like Tiny.

The 60% attack damage reduction includes attack damage bonuses instead of base damage
The CD is only 7 seconds and duration is 11 seconds, which means a 100% uptime is not hard to maintain

The Nightmare saves is valuable, and Fiend’s Grip pierces BKB. And most importantly, Team Spirit loved to use him, and they had a 100% win rate with him. Bane had a 100% win rate when combo with multiple heroes.

Team Spirit loves the Skewer into Fiend’s Grip combo, it is a 100% death trap

Dark Willow was also a Team Spirit special, they picked 4 times out of 5 and won 3 of them. Dark Willow is a great counter to Magnus, without BKB which he does not like to buy at all, blinking into the Bramble Maze is dangerous, once rooted, he cannot cast Skewer. It also counters Lycan that rushes Scepter, because usually, the Wolf Bite strategy would like to start snowballing at the 20-minute mark without BKB, the maze makes a great space to kite them and it is hard to avoid at such high speed. Dark Willow herself is also hard to be killed with Shadow Realm.

Puck is similar, because the meta loves high mobility heroes, the Leash effect from Dream Coil is a great tool to control them.

Lowest Win Rate Heroes (pick ≥ 3 )

Io and Legion Commander were better in group stages (40.82% and 59.09% win rate), but teams had found ways to deal with them and suppressed the win rate. The average assist of Io has dropped from 14.33 to 11.18. Both average kills and assists of Legion Commander have dropped too.

The only 3 wins of Weaver were played as support, meaning that his damage is lacking as a core.

Highest Pick Rate Increase

The high pick rate of Lion is not surprising when you see the spirit brothers(Void Spirit, Storm Spirit, Ember Spirit) are quite common.

Enchantress was only used by Team Secret, but other teams learned from them. She is hard to kill, and the purge is a nice counter to buffs on cores, but she needs some minimal farm, or she becomes useless if the team cannot arrange the resources.

Highest Pick Rate Decrease

Many of the heroes in this list were banned, but Gyrocopter is so bad in this patch, and teams realized it and ignored him, he lacks both damage and farming speed after the nerfs.

Peak Hero Performance

KDA of Ember Spirit increased from 6.38 to 11.75, which means he is ultra-hard to kill in the correct hands, which we had seen in the final game, and he also did great damage.

The damage efficiency of Winter Wyvern is surprisingly high, it is due to many strength core was picked and Arctic Burn did most of the damage.

Even in the only game that OG played Dawnbreaker as core, she healed for 4.2k. All others were played as supports, and with Holy Locket and Mekansm she became a decent healer. But seeing her on the list is because traditional healer like Chen and Oracle is out of meta.

Faction

That 27% win rate shift is crazy

Team Spirit loved the last pick, especially they alternatively get a double first pick by letting Tiny out, and they singlehandedly balanced out the Radiant advantage.

Sorry that it is quite short because most of the analysis was done in the group stage article. I will try my best to finish the macro strategy analysis before the next DPC season. See you next time.
