OG is our first 2 time and back-to-back champions. Congratulation!

Same as last year, we are going to focus on the main stage stats so that we can see how the meta developed.

In the main stage, due to elimination, there will be much less pick than the group stage, teams are more likely to stay in their comfort zone too.

Games: 49
Total Heroes: 117
Picked: 92
Banned: 74
Untouched: 24

From datdota.com
Still, no hero is 100% contested, although some hero seems broken, it is not that bad

Most Picked Heroes

  • Tiny is the most reliable hero in the main event, flexible in mid or pos 4, he does massive magic damage at the early stage of the game, and extreme damage with the Scepter upgrade at the late game, you can find it by his Damage/Gold. The craziest part is that every hit of Tree Volley can apply the slow from Echo Sabre and trigger Critical hit.
  • Elder Titan is the most picked hero in the whole event, Natural Order makes the enemy vulnerable and provides a chance to kill them quickly to avoid reinforcement. He is also extremely helpful in teamfights, where many teams like to win games by winning mid-game skirmishes and secure objectives.
  • Many top Position 4 players play some crazy Rubick game, like LGD.fy and Secret.YapzOr, this hero has a very high win rate, and teams some times pick him in the 1st phase.
  • Shadow Demon was explained in the group stage analysis, same as Elder Titan, Soul Catcher as a percentage burst skill is very valuable against STR heroes. And his Disruption can also save teammates from burst damage.
  • Faceless Void is the top carry of the main stage, he is hard to catch, can help on teamfight when he has Chronosphere, and his Time Lock can stun-lock enemy core at the late-game.
Time Lock has a 24% trigger chance, where Basher is 25%, but it seems so much easier to bash at first hit. Since the second attack of Time Lock can trigger itself, I suspect that it counts towards the number of the missed hit in pseudo-random distribution, causing all first hit of Faceless Void are counted as 2nd hit, which has almost a double chance to bash at first hit.

Most Banned Heroes

  • Simply from the stat, you can see the power of Alchemist. The high KDA means he is difficult to be killed, and he does an immense amount of tower damage. Meaning that he can siege tower with his tankiness. And when he farms smoothly, his spike timing is also tough to deal with, at around 20 ~ 22 minutes, he will siege your high ground with Radiance, Black King Bar and Assault Cuirass, with the high regen of Chemical Rage, he is unkillable at that timing.
  • Nature’s Attendant and Untouchable of Enchantress provides enough sustain to let her solo the lane against 2, free up the pos 4 to roam the map, making the team outnumber enemies in the early teamfight. Her damage/gold is also very high because of the true damage from Impetus.
  • Leshrac is banned in all OG game, his early damage spike is very hard to deal with, easily out-damage any healing lineup, his current build with 550 movement speed also makes him super mobile and difficult to catch.

Highest Win Rate Heroes (pick ≥ 3 )

  • Meepo is the magic last pick of Secret.MidOne and Liquid.w33. Team Secret uses it to counter the Alchemist pick of Mineski, Team Liquid uses it to counter Core Io pick of Team Secret and secure first game of the grand finals against OG. He is a perfect last pick when you need a high tempo hero line up.
  • Monkey King is played by OG.topson and Infamous.Chris Luck. His long-range Tree Dance makes him a nightmare of the enemy jungle; he will gank the whole jungle after the laning phase. You can find it from his top KDA stat. Also, his added Scepter effect is one of the greatest sieging items, risk-free sieging once the Soldier is spawned besides enemy buildings.
  • Core Io, really not much to say, just power spike around 20 minutes is too strong. From its damage/gold and hero heal stats, you know how much damage and heal it does, it is doing too much right now.
  • Dark Seer is interesting, he is not picked in the group stage, considered over nerfed and out of meta. But Team Liquid proved it wrong, Liquid.MinD_ContRoL won all 3 games with Dark Seer. Proving that the hero may not be as strong as before that he can skip all the creeps and farm the jungle together, but he still has lots of potentials, especially those Vacuum plays.

Lowest Win Rate Heroes (pick ≥ 3 )

  • Lifestealer in the main event have been kiting around by Force Staff, Eul’s Scepter and Glimmer Cape. His item timing is also too slow in some fast-tempo game.
  • Mirana is a similar case, players are better at dodging the Sacred Arrow in the main stage, and her usual set-up partner Shadow Demon is banned a lot.
  • Earthshaker is strange, he did well in the group stage. What I found is that most of the game he loses is one-sided, meaning that he seems to be a hard-to-comeback hero.

Highest Pick Rate Increase

  • Tidehunter is picked a lot, similar to Enchantress, his tankiness allows him to stay in the lane, and free the pos 4 roamers. He is also one of the best counter-initiator.
  • Bristleback is picked for a fast-paced game, but not many teams succeed with him.

Highest Pick Rate Decrease

  • In the main stage, Orge Magi are not doing well, 4 out of 7 of his losing games have an Enchantress, who ignores his armor. and 5 out 7 of his losing games also have a Tiny, which will burst him down with magic damage.
  • Ancient Apparition and Naga Siren is just banned a lot, 17 and 16 times respectively.

Peak Hero Performance

  • Monkey King showing up in 3 top 3 list really explains that he is a great hero in the right hands.
  • Windranger has very high stats too, but not many players mastered her.

Faction

The dire side has a slight advantage, either with or without the first pick.

from u/MaTa_gosu

Radiant side kills more Roshan, so it is not related to the pit. Dire side picked more rune, still don’t know if it is because they are controlling the map or they are easier on runes controls which increases their win rate.

Same as last year, I am going to write a long article about the strategies of OG, stay tuned.
