Asia cup 2018 will get underway on September 15 and all participating teams have submitted the final draft of their playing squad. So which players hold the key for India as the talisman Virat Kohli has been rested for the tournament. So here are the 5 players who can share the workload and be the game-changers for Team India.

1. Rohit Sharma: With the absence of our regular captain, Rohit Sharma has been thrust with this responsibility to keep India going. As a limited over batsman, there is nobody more dangerous than the Hitman. A devastating power of clean hitting is one of his core strengths. But now the stakes are very high. Though he captained India several times before, he has never done this before in such a huge multi-team tournament. As an opener, he needs to start well in every match to help out the team.

2. Shikhar Dhawan: As an opening partner of Rohit Sharma, the swashbuckling Shikhar Dhawan needs to give an ideal start. With both Indian openers having weakness against left arm fast bowlers, the opponents will definitely want to capitalise on this. So both the openers need to play inside the line against the left arm quickies to avoid the possibility of an LBW or inside edges. Why left arm fast bowlers are more dangerous?

3. Kuldeep Yadav: There is an old adage, ‘The rarest of the rare’ and ‘Chinaman’ best describes this. Chinaman is a term for left arm leg spinner bowlers, which is rather uncommon to see in the cricket world. The release point and angle of a Chinaman bowler is not only difficult to judge but also very diverse. So, playing smoothly against them is not an easy task for batsmen. Kuldeep can be the dark horse for India.

4. Yuzvendra Chahal: The senior partner of ‘Spin-Twin’, Yuzvendra Chahal will hold the key for India’s success. A clever leg spinner with the brilliant ability to read situations carefully, he is definitely India’s man to charge to bask again in glory at the end of the Asia Cup. With the pitches more likely to favour spin as the tournament progresses, Chahal can be a lethal weapon at any point of a match. We are certainly looking forward to see the ‘Spin-Twins’ in action.

5. Jasprit Bumrah: You can’t win an ODI or a T-20 match without a death over specialist. After the rules changed for ODIs, the average runs scored is more than 80 in the death overs. Without death over specialists, a team can’t contain the opposition to an under-par score. With Bhuvneshwar Kumar certain to be back, Bumrah and Bhuvi can be dangerous for any opposition in the death overs. Both of them can deliver yorkers, stiff bouncers and slow deliveries.

Please note the intended absence of MS Dhoni in this list. MS Dhoni is no longer the impact player he used to be. Now, he is the engine of the train, leader of the pack, the alpha. All the team members are important to win any form of cricket match. The recently concluded England-India series is living proof of that. We saw that Virat couldn’t single-handedly lead team India to victory. Performance of all members of a team can produce a decisive result. So, let’s cheer for Team India to another laurel.
