My professional development path as a Community Leader.
I was accepted into DOT Kenya’s Youth Leadership Program in 2017, at that time I had a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Development and was currently pursuing Masters in Project Planning and Management at The University of Nairobi. When I look back I can say much has really changed for me ever since I joined DOT Kenya in terms of working experience.
The interactions with peers and DOT staff, have cultivated in me a new kind of thinking that I would never had I not joined DOT. The forums like the MOODLE, Face to Face workshops, the regional meetings, competitions, the IPD among others have exposed me into being Innovative and improved my problem solving and analyzing skills.
Most importantly facilitating the Startup and Digital Literacy Programs have also given my career a direction and a foundation from which my future work will be built on. The experience of facilitation whereby I interact with my participants in a classroom environment is one thing that has also improved my interactions in my private life.
I can confidently say that there is a positive change in my life looking back to the lessons I have learnt and the challenges I have gone through. This positive change in me is what drives me to leave a positive mark in the lives of my participants as I deliver the startup and digital literacy programs. I believe that the network of the people who have passed through DOT are creating a positive impact in the world.
I started my journey as a Community Leader in Kisumu County and right now I am in Kericho County, working with people of a different community at times is not easy but when there are laid down structures of carrying out business and the benefits outlined from the word go, everyone will actually play their part into making the engagement a success.
Lastly, with the skills, attitude and behavior change, knowledge and experiences I have learnt in DOT, I solemnly pledge to make the world a better place, so help me God!
