THE DOT KENYA EFFECT
The Digital Opportunity Trust Kenya (DOT Kenya) has been of great importance on a personal level and my community at large. Being part of DOT Kenya has helped me in my personal growth as I have expanded my social network. DOT Kenya, being an organization that boasts about helping youth create opportunities and transform their communities has enabled youth in Mathare slums to discover their potential. Youth in Mathare have become more confident and are taking part in the Impactathon program where they are able to learn through the use of online courses and the Moodle app (learning management system) which makes learning easy and accessible.
Youth in Mathare have learnt many concepts about social entrepreneurship including the social impact canvas, digital skills, and other aspects of entrepreneurship, via DOT Kenya some of them which are not offered in the normal school curriculum. The DOT Kenya Youth Leadership program (YLP) churns out youth who are development and impact oriented. They light a candle that lights up other candles hence lighting up the world with several opportunities.
The DOT effect has been felt on the ground in Mathare area with youth in the area very excited about the program and its offering to the community at the grass root level. Before the program was rolled out in Mathare, youth were not as engaged but they are now highly motivated and inspired leading some to start there own social enterprises.
Through the StartUp! program youth have gained training in personal development, social entrepreneurship, ICT and digital skills. DOT Kenya is doing an amazing job by empowering young people in Kenya to lead change in their local communities.
I would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank DOT Kenya for creating an impact on youth who in turn transforming their communities especially in my home area of Mathare. Cheers to OASIS Mathare for always giving youth in Mathare hope and opportunities.
