Great question!!!

Octopuses are known to be “silent hunters” and they don’t actually have vocal chords. They also don’t have ears, and are completely deaf.

There have been some reports of squids making whooshing sounds (and even “farting sounds” I’m not making that up lol!) but these sounds are mostly a result of them jetting though the water.

If octopuses are communicating with each other, or trying to communicate with us, it’s not through vocalization.

Octopuses, however, are able to recognize people and patterns, so maybe finding a way to communicate with them isn’t too far off!
