There are four main bodies of water in the Lake District where you can enjoy a relaxing boat cruise: in the South Lakes there’s Windermere and Coniston Water, while in the North Lakes there’s Derwentwater and Ullswater.

For those who are interested in taking a cruise in the Lake District, here is a map with the 4 best lake cruises. Head to Windermere. At Bowness-on-Windermere you will have a wide selection of craft on which to cruise the Lake. There’s everything from rowing boats if you want to do a do it yourself experience! Right up to large steamers. The advantage of Windermere is you can also add on a steam train ride to the lake cruise. The train can be picked up from either Lakeside or Haverthwaite. You can even stop at Lakeside for a short while to get some ice-cream, have a cream tea or visit the aquarium. There is also a hotel with gardens which back onto the lake there. Ullswater and to a slightly lesser extent Derwent water and Coniston are surrounded by mountains, whereas Windermere is only surrounded by low lying hills. Derwentwater round trip is the shortest, around an hour but not sure how it will fit into you’re already busy schedule. Ullswater is gorgeous but would take much longer as it’s a larger lake.

As most of people from different countries might not know about the lake cruises this map will help you choose the cruise you like.
