MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS
Trek to Yomi is a Kurosawa-style side scroller
Trek to Yomi is a black-and-white cinematic action-adventure side scroller inspired by Japanese samurai films of the 1950s and 1960s like the works of Akira Kurosawa. Its striking first trailer showcases the game’s lifelike visuals and picture-perfect film grain, with developers Flying Wild Hog (Shadow Warrior) and Leonard Menchairi (RIOT) aspiring to “bring the Edo period to life in the most faithful way possible.”

Trek to Yomi is slated to release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X in 2022.
Phantom Abyss gets a release date
Queensland’s Team WIBY announced that Phantom Abyss — its asynchronous multiplayer title where only one person in the world can claim the ancient relic from procedurally-generated temples — is due out on June 22 on PC via Steam Early Access. This trailer doesn’t seem to show us anything new from the innovative first-person platformer, but anything new about this Aussie wonder is worth watching.

Wizard with a Gun looks like Don’t Starve meets Bastion
From our first look at Wizard with a Gun, it seems a little like the multiplayer survival sandbox adventure game is Don’t Starve crossed with Bastion: a twin-stick shooting, crafting, co-operative game with a charming supernatural Western flair.
It looks like a blast — and the trailer’s animated introduction is worth a watch in its own right.

Wizard with a Gun is set to release on Nintendo Switch and PC in 2022.
Inscryption is the horror-themed deck builder that we didn’t know we wanted
Developer Daniel Mullins Games succinctly described Inscryption as “an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie”. We’re not quite sure about that, but the reveal trailer and its flashes of mixed-media adventure-horror made for an incredible first impression.

Inscryption is scheduled to release later this year on PC.
Doinksoft debuts physical-only Demon Throttle
Doinksoft, the makers of 2019’s cat-themed Metroid-like Gato Roboto, debuted an 8-bit retro top-down shooter that is not only exclusive to Switch, but exclusive to physical distribution. No digital distribution here, folks.

Devolver Tumble Time — Get Out Your Phones Later This Year
In the midst of the Adult Swim-style conference antics, Devolver also announced its sarcastic time-waster set to release on iOS and Android mobile devices later this year.
Devolver Digital and its returning “Chief Synergy Officer” Nina Struthers continued their satire of the video game industry for this year’s Devolver Direct, but while the skits were humorous, the announcements were not numerous. Maybe next year…
