Why yes there is. That day would be Cyber Monday, which turns 11 this year!

No need to fight the crowds on the day after Thanksgiving — because you don’t want to be out in that. You really don’t. Instead, start your holiday shopping on a day when you can take advantage of fantastic bargains available only on the internet.

Speaking of great Cyber Monday deals, you can’t afford to miss this one! Every single book we publish is on sale at a whopping 40% off when you make a purchase of only $30 or more. But you must order now: this offer is good for today only, November 28, 2016.

Your plans for the December holidays probably have something to do with the buying and receiving of gifts. It’s fun to buy great presents for the people in your life and it’s also fun to receive.

“I have loved Dover books for a long time; I’ve used so many over the years that it’s hard to list a favorite,” says Aimme M. “But I can still recall a Dover coloring book I got over 40 years ago, when I was 13. It was a Christmas gift from my sister and featured artwork of the late medieval era.”

“My favorite purchases are the ones I have bought for my grandchildren,” says Nancy J. of Saville, Ohio. “Last Christmas I was able to go wild with dinosaurs, children’s classic (Call of the Wild), a journaling book for my granddaughter, lots of little tattoo and sticker books, bookmarks, etc. Thanks for your far-reaching selections for kids.”

Books, reading and story-telling are traditions for many families for all of the holidays. Reading Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol is one that comes to mind. Probably not many people in America know, however, that ghost stories at Christmas were already an English tradition by the time Dickens published the story of Mr. Scrooge’s conversion. The Washington Post published a good article on this subject, which explains the split between the American tradition of spooky stories on Halloween and the English preference for scaring themselves silly in the bleak midwinter.

You can start your own tradition or make a gift of Dover’s fine hardcover book, Dickens’ Christmas Spirits, which includes wonderful black and white illustrations by Arthur Rackham and includes A Christmas Carol as well as other holiday stories that aren’t as well-known but deserve to be. And for an alternative view of Santa Claus (he’s not wearing a Coke-can red suit) Denslow’s Night Before Christmas can’t be beat for a riotous and engaging version of the story.

If your celebration is solstice-based, consider Echoes of the Ancient Skies: The Astronomy of Lost Civilizations by E.C. Krupp. Dr. Krupp has been the director of the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles since the 1970s and has studied the methods used to track the skies by civilizations all over the planet.

It might also be the time to drop a few hints about what you’d like to receive. And if no one takes the hint? Treat yourself. No need to wait. Wynona J. of Atlanta, Georgia, says it pretty well: “I recently bought 21 coloring books; when the shipment arrived, it felt like Christmas. Each day that I use my Dover products feels like Christmas.”
