As of August 5th, 2015 SoundExchange, the sole digital performance rights organization, has paid more than $3 Billion in digital royalties to artists, and labels.

This amount is since 2003, when they spun off into their own wholly independent non-profit organization.

The monumental growth in digital royalties, which made up 16% of music related revenues in the U.S. last year, is largely due to the massive growth in digital radio services.

In 2014 SoundExchange paid $773 Million in royalties to around 100,000 artists, and labels. Although SoundExchange makes it known that there are many services out there which are not paying artists. There are also artists who are still not claiming the digital performance royalties owed to them.

SoundExchange wants to ensure that artists are compensated fairly for their works.
