FilmGate Miami empowers independent media and filmmakers to create in Florida. “We strive to serve our creative community and bring our members and audience together through regular screenings, educational programs, workshops, destination creative labs, and networking events,” explained Diliana Alexander, FilmGate’s Executive Director and Co-founder.

Here is a sampling of the many programs offered.

Film Festival

The hyper-Local Film Festival will take place at the Silverspot Cinema in Downtown Miami on February 26th from 6:30 pm — 10 pm. The free film marathon showcases all genres including drama, horror, fiction, documentary, web series and more.

The idea is to include creators based in Florida or projects filmed locally. “This is a way to support our local community of filmmakers and help them earn exposure,” observed FilmGate’s Vanessa Gimenez. “Ultimately, creating an atmosphere of collaboration and community among all. The festival features a ‘Percolator Session’ for creators to share upcoming projects, new ideas, or services in a mic for about 2 minutes.”

Boot Camp

In addition, FilmGate will host a filmmaking Bootcamp every Saturday from January 25th to February 22th. The Bootcamp will be hosted by cinematographer Giovanni Fabietti, who will share his 40+ years of experience shooting feature films, news content, and commercials for major brands. Classes involve practical stuff and classroom-style training, as students learn the fine details of cinematography from one of the community’s most talented professionals.

Why the Drama

Lastly, Why the Drama is back. Actors, writers, and industry professionals have the opportunity to meet up at the Downtown FilmGate Studios. This event is to take place biweekly starting on February 4.

“Our mission is to craft, critique and expand works and performances, coming from South Florida. Special guests will include casting agents, filmmakers, and distinguished media industry members. This event will feature a read-through of screenplays and welcomes industry professionals to witness the talent Miami has to offer,” concluded Diliana Alexander.
