More Homeless in Downtown
By Aurea Veras
I am neither a lawyer nor a policy expert who can argue pro and against homelessness ad nauseam. I am a downtown resident, a woman who witnesses and endures every single day the harassment of people who have no business roaming our streets.
Every day I must witness and be subjected to the spectacle of public drunkness, lewd behavior. Every day I must witness homeless people urinating and defecating right where I and thousands of residents live. It’s an aesthetic affront, but more importantly, a public health hazard.
I have one simple question for our elected officials: Why is it that our neighbors in Brickell don’t have to deal with this problem?
