What’s New Avenue 3

Since 2018, the nonprofit effort Avenue 3 Miami has faced many challenges, but despite hurricane winds (2017) that destroyed buildings, business downturns resulting from Coronavirus (2020–2021) and more homelessness facing US cities everywhere, our goals remain as strong as ever. By Steve Dutton.

What’s New

  1. The virus caused the City to allow free outdoor seating in street parking lanes and the MPD will be installing cameras at each end and mid-block to provide viewing of the street and sidewalks for further security.
  2. Soon we’ll launch a Pilot program, #1000 Miami Stories, recruiting homeless volunteers and using the Samaritan app to help them meet their goals and help to reduce the number who are unserved.
  3. Wanting our neighborhood to be as safe and prosperous as it can be for everyone who lives or works nearby, or visits Avenue 3, this week I volunteered to attend 15 hours of training at the Citizens Police Academy to learn about resources for a Crime Watch volunteer program, in partnership with law enforcement. (In the next issue of Downtown News, I’ll report on the training.)
