This tutorial explains the basic settings in Rhino how to export CAD drawings from Rhino to PDF file, and also explains difference between raster and vector.

part 1 : How to set line weights, line types and match property?

1 . draw 8 lines with LINE or ARRAY and change the colour and line weight in property bar on the right side of the screen.

2. how to set layers ?

Go to ‘layers’ beside properties and select new layer and name it 2D and add a sub layer to the layer 2D as ANNO.

3. change all the layers of the lines in the property bar to ANNO.

4. Match property?

Draw any diagram on the page and type ‘match properties’ and take the lines as reference and match them.

5. change the line type scale to 100.

6.Hatch?

Type ‘Hatch’ and select the diagram and select the type of hatch.

7. UNITS is the main step. Go to File>properties>units>model>change to feet and ‘display distance’ any scale you want to mention. for example : I took 1'-1–1/4".

Part 2 : How to set up the sheet and print it to PDF from Rhino ?

  1. Draw a rectangle of 24"x 36" and then draw type ‘scale2D’ and scale to rectangle and place it on the diagrams.

2. Go to File>print>in view and output scale set up the window to print.

3. Make sure in margins and positions all the values are 0.

4. Here you go , Click on print and save it in a folder where you want to .

VECTOR and RASTER ?

For Architectural students VECTOR is recommended , because RASTER image is made of pixels, and gives a poor resolution after it is printed. For a better resolution click on ‘VECTOR output’ in output type before printing.

And your drawing is ready to be printed with a good resolution.
