Fabrication Techniques

Fabrication techniques can be categorized into 3 types: Folded Model, Contour/ Laminated Model and Waffle/Egg Crate Model.These are different types of methods in which a block or element can be fabricated using the Laser Cutter.

This tutorial will talk about Fabricating a block using the Waffle/Egg Crate Modelling method. The element that we have chosen to work with has a doubly curved surface and and a single curved surface. The Waffle/Egg crate modelling method will help us achieve the maximum approximation of the same.

The element to be fabricated

In this method, the form of the element will be created using a series of planes.

1. The planes can be generated using “Contour”.
2. But first, a new layer has to be created and a reference line perpendicular to the direction of the planes should be drawn.

3.Create ribs in the other direction and make the curves into surfaces using “ PlanarSrf”
