This tutorial teaches architectural students to transfer a 2D drawing into 3D modeling. The strategy is starting with a solid box and make the inner walls by using the “shell” commend. The example using here is Frank Gehry’s Winton guest house.

.Type in “shell” commend, click the bottom surfaces, check the “thickness” option, and click both edges of the wall thickness in the plan drawing.

.If you want to measure the thickness of the roof, use the “section” commend. “Distance” the perpendicular distance between the top 2 lines.

.Say you want to change the roof thickness to 12”. Move the section out and draw a perpendicular line from the top edge and type 12”.

.Type in “moveface”, select the surface you want to adjust, and click the 2 intersected points on the 12” line.
