To Begin, in Rhino set the Units. In Units Tolerances- in Model units: set to feet, in Distance display: set to Feet & Inches

We will be tracing a Floor Plan from an existing image. The command to bring in the image is PictureFrame, select the image from your files and bring it in to model space. Pick first point and holding down the Shift key select second point to keep the image aligned.

The image will need to be scaled to the correct scale. If the image has a bar scale it can be used to set the scale for the drawing. If it does not have a scale, as the image used here, dimensions can be used that are in the plan.

Select a dimension that will work best to set the scale.

To set the scale, draw a line (see red line) the same distance as the dimension intended to use.

Select the line and image and scale it up to the dimension.

In layers create a 2D layer and sublayers to Walls, Windows, Doors and Picture. Place the image on the Picture layer, and in Properties under Object in Transparency set to about 60% or as desired to gray back the image before starting the line work, lock the layer to keep the image in place, set the Wall layer to current and start drawing the Site Plan.

When finished tracing the Floor Plan set doors and windows to the appropriate layers and colors, the thickness or the lines will be determined in Illustrator. For the Walls set to Magenta or Blue, Doors set to Red and Yellow, and Windows set to Yellow or Green. Use Red for Dashed lines, Window sill or others (see drawing image below).

Now we are ready to Export to Illustrator. Under File select Export with Origin select the line drawing when prompted. Name the file and under Save as type: Choose Adobe Illustrator. In Options — for Scale choose Preserve model scale and set scale 4 feet = 1 inch, this will fit the 24" x 36" Format/Artboard we will be setting the drawing on.

Open the Illustrator file of the Floor Plan, and zoom out to see the entire drawing.

In Properties set to inches and set the Art Board to fit 24” x 36”.

Once the Artboard is setup select the drawing and move it in to the Artboard Area.

To set the line weight and color — in the menu under Window choose Properties, in Properties under Layers turn off all except the Wall Layer: Select all lines for the walls and in Stroke (under Window in menu) set line to 1.5 pt (points) and for the color select Black. Turn off all layers except Window and set the line weight to .75pt. follow the steps above for the Layer Doors and set the line weight to .5 and select the color Black.

8. For the Windows select the window and in Menu under Objects — Arrange — send to back. The walls lines are in front and show more dominant.

All line weights and color (black) should now be set.

Create a layer titled Pocke — to set poche select Fill double click on the fill at Left Bottom of Toos the color chart will open and set the color to black. We will fill the walls. With the bucket tool select the Walls to Poche.

When drawing is finished Print to PDF.
