Sometimes operators need a hand moving materials around the jobsite. These grapple buckets turn a excavator from a dig-only machine into one that’s capable of lifting and shifting materials around the work area. This can be useful in a variety of situations on construction jobsites, including land-clearing and demolition tasks.

The most popular style of grapple for excavators is a fixed grapple and boasts two jaws — one with three tines and one with two tines. Rotating attachments like grapples have become more popular for use with mini excavators and backhoes. Accessories such as tiltrotators further expand a grapple’s versatility and can improve the excavator operator’s productivity.

You need to ensure that your excavator has a spare spool on the control valve block capable of operating the grapple and also check that the grapple’s weight fits within the machine’s capacity.
