Denture Repair

All dentures can eventually break and unfortunately, it is quite a common scenario with a dentist experiencing this several times a week amongst his patients.

A denture repair can be carried out at the dentist’s chair-side but often a dentist will send the denture away to the laboratory for repair to be collected the following day. If you have a spare denture, it is a good idea to bring this with you.

Once a denture has been repaired, it is probably more likely to break again. An old ill-fitting denture is more likely to break than a new denture which fits well. In addition, traditional acrylic plastic dentures will break more frequently than cobalt chrome-based mental dentures. A Flexi-denture, however, is virtually unbreakable.

Patients who are clenching their teeth or grinding their teeth at night (bruxism) are more likely to break down dentures.

You can buy over-the-counter denture repair kits but they are never going to be as good as their repair at your regular dentist. Even worse, denture repair kits which are DIY can actually make the denture even worse than originally made.
