You can now color precincts by the “swing” in the two-party vote share between two elections (or election composites).

To analyze how partisan lean has changed between elections, click on the Swing option in the Colors pane on the left.

That will bring up the dialog below which you use to pick two elections (or election composites).

The “swing” in the two-party vote share is calculated from the first & second elections that you pick. If a precinct was 50/50 in the first election but 51/49 (Democratic/Republican) in the second, the swing (or Democratic minus Republican shares) is 2 percentage points more Democratic.

Precincts will be colored by their swings, using your red-to-blue gradient which is displayed in the lower-left of the map window.

If you select the Show the two-party swing as precinct labels checkbox, the swing values will show up as precinct labels. Note: Positive numbers mean the precinct voted more Democratic, while negative numbers mean it voted more Republican (less Democratic).

As with coloring districts by partisan lean, swing coloring will only show for unassigned precincts and precincts that aren’t colored with map (district) colors.
