When you click on the “Analytics” command in DRA 2020, you will see a bird’s-eye view that rates the essential characteristics of your map.

The diagram characterizes the map along five dimensions:

  • Proportionality The degree to which the share of seats a party is likely to win is proportional to the the share of votes they are likely to receive statewide
  • Competitiveness —The likely number of districts that are competitive as a proportion of the total number of districts
  • Minority Rights — The degree to which minorities have the opportunity to elect representatives of their choice
  • Compactness — The degree to which district shapes are compact, using the Reock and Polsby–Popper, and
  • Splitting — The degree to which the districts don’t split the counties (and vice versa)

Each dimension is normalized to a [0–100] rating, where bigger is better. As you (re)assign precincts to (different) districts, these ratings will change.

It also reports whether the basic requirements for valid maps are met.

For more information about each of the dimensions and these requirements, check out the Analytics command.
