The draft is just a couple of days away. Despite what certain members of the media might have you believe, there is nothing new coming out this week. No new last-minute revelation, no unknown prospect shooting up boards; this is it. Finalize your mocks and big boards and buckle up: the NFL Draft is here.

This pick was being discussed before Lawrence took a single snap of college ball. To say Lawrence lived up to the impossible hype would be an understatement. He’s been gradually improving from a level that, at 18, was already above any other QB in this draft class. There are no sure things in sports (or life) but this is as close as you get. Bad memes aside, there has never been any doubt that this was going to be the pick.

2. New York Jets — Zach Wilson, QB, BYU

Wilson’s meteoric rise from virtual unknown to top three pick has created a lot of skeptics. Yes, his level of competition is a concern. Yes, his offensive line granted him a lot of favors this year. But his arm strength cannot be denied. His ability to extend plays and find a throw where there wasn’t one draws comparisons to Patrick Mahomes. He’s a gunslinger. He can be high risk at times and will have to dial it down some in the NFL but the talent is certainly there.

3. San Francisco 49ers (via HOU via MIA) — Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State

I refuse to believe this pick is Mac Jones. Sure, the world at large seems to think it is. But the world at large can eat sand. There is nothing Mac Jones can do that Justin Fields cannot do better. Fields is consistent — the only other first-round QB with multiple strong starting years under his belt — and his athleticism is perfect for Shanahan’s scheme. Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson have been written in stone for over a month. I refuse to believe that the 49ers traded all this capital without knowing exactly who they are taking. And I refuse to believe they aren’t taking the second-best quarterback prospect in the draft. I’ll happily eat my crow but until then — it’s Fields.

TRADE ALERT: New England sends 15, 96, 122, 2022 1st and 3rd to Atlanta for 4 and 2022 3rd

4. New England Patriots (via ATL)— Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State

One thing that as been consistent throughout the offseason is the Patriots have been notably aggressive. Talks of trading up have floated around here and there and are starting to heat back up. While this could be a smokescreen, I think Bill Belichick, approaching 70 with Cam Newton at QB, isn’t keen on spending too much more time in football purgatory. Lance is a raw passer but a tremendous athlete and an intelligent player. His best chance to succeed is sitting behind a good mentor on a team with an elite coaching staff. Watch out AFC East 2022.

5. Cincinnati Bengals — Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU

The obvious pick here should Penei Sewell. Your franchise quarterback is coming off a severe injury after failing to make it through his rookie season. Your priority has got to be protecting him. That said, there is notable chemistry between Burrow and Chase, a need at wide receiver, and this would make their offense pretty frightening. Whether or not I agree, I think this is the way they go. Just pray for some good OL in the second.

6. Miami Dolphins (via PHI) — Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida

While the hype around Pitts has reached historic levels of hyperbole, it’s not entirely unearned. Pitts is the best tight end prospect in recent memory. His athletic profile is off the charts, he’s a mismatch nightmare, and he regularly went up against and beat 1st and 2nd round corners. They could go Sewell here and be happy. They could go DeVonta here and be happy. Really, this is the best position Miami could be in.

7. Detroit Lions — Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon

Dan Campbell is gonna bite his own kneecap if Sewell is still on the board here. While their guards could use some developing and sorting out, this would give the Lions franchise pieces at both tackle positions as well as center. Jared Goff would certainly be pleased.

The trade for Sam Darnold signified that the Panthers believe themselves to be out of the QB race. Does this mean five QBs go in the top seven or that one QB maybe isn’t as beloved around the league as we all think? Which is more likely? The Panthers have need at virtually every position on their offensive line and Slater gives them the flexibility to address which ever he excel the most at, my bet would be inside.

9. Denver Broncos — Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State

Anyone willing to draft Parsons has to be willing to reckon with his off-the-field history. If you can get past that, if you believe that’s all behind him, he’s a top ten talent and a must-draft for the Broncos. The Broncos are sorely lacking athleticism at inside linebacker and need somebody to step up to take the torch from Von and lead the defense.

10. Dallas Cowboys — Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina

I’ve been Team Surtain all season and while I still am, I’m starting to lean towards Dallas grabbing Horn instead. McCarthy wants to get more aggressive on defense and there’s no better press-man corner than Horn in the draft. Aside from his attributes on the fields, McCarthy also has a connection with Jaycee’s father, Joe Horn, who he coached on two separate occasions. With how McCarthy has assembled his staff and roster, it would make a lot of sense to see Horn be the pick.

TRADE ALERT: Washington sends 19, 51, and 163 to New York Giants for 11.

11. Washington Football Team (via NYG) — Mac Jones, QB, Alabama

WhiteBoySummer gets to sit and learn from WhiteManAutumn.

12. Philadelphia Eagles (via SF via MIA) — DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama

I think the Eagles intend to take a corner. I think they intend to do that right up until they get on the clock and notice DeVonta Smith is still available. The Eagles, like the Bengals (famous last words), kick their bigger needs down to day two and grab an elite wideout. Smith is a stud who would be far and away WR1 if not for Ja’Marr Chase. Even then, Jalen Hurts has familiarity with Smith, same with Burrow and Chase, and I think that’s valuable in its own right.

13. Los Angeles Chargers — Alijah Vera-Tucker, OL, USC

Your rookie quarterback takes an extreme amount of hits so you draft an offensive lineman to help protect him. What a concept.

With a huge weakness at left tackle, the Vikings are doing cartwheels at Darrisaw’s availability at 14. Darrisaw would be a top tackle prospect in a lot of drafts. He plays a relatively mistake-free game. My only real knock on him is his play effort can be lacking. I’m sure that habit will be drilled out of him at the next level though. Even so, he comes into the NFL a day one starter that is capable in all facets of the game.

15. Atlanta Falcons — Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama

Surtain is arguably the best defensive player in the draft and an absolute steal at 15. The Falcons could’ve taken him at four and it would’ve been completely justifiable. Surtain is disruptive and plays with great athleticism, especially when contesting catches. Similar to Trevor Lawrence, he has faced almost impossibly high expectations since high school but has managed to keep his head down, block out the noise, and play at a near-peerless level.

16. Arizona Cardinals — Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama

You may ask yourself, is receiver really the Cardinals biggest need? But look at their roster and their need becomes apparent — it’s to win and win NOW. They’ve got old players getting older, contracts expiring, and coaches out to prove their worth. Waddle gives them an embarrassment of riches at the receiver position and too much speed to consistently stop. Cardinals are all in on 2021.

17. Las Vegas Raiders — Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama

The Raiders created this need for themselves recently. With the release of Maurice Hurst, the Raiders find themselves in need of an aggressive, pass-rushing defensive tackle. Barmore is the clear and undisputed DT1 in a pretty weak defensive tackle class. A solid run defender and incredibly efficient pass rusher, Barmore is a no-brainer for Jon Gruden here. Though I have said that many times before and have been wrong every time.

18. Miami Dolphins — Kwity Paye, EDGE, Michigan

Not a receiver, not a runningback, but arguably the best EDGE in the draft. Dolphins fans might not like this pick but it’s a smart one long-term. His production has not yet matched his ability but Brian Flores can certainly fix that. Paye, similar to Jayson Oweh, has a lot of almost plays. Yeah yeah, horseshoes and hand grenades or whatever. Paye gets into the backfield. He stops the run and wins passing reps at one of the highest rates in the class. If Flores can get more production out of Paye’s ability, all doubters will be silenced.

19. New York Giants (via WFT) — Tyson Campbell, CB, Georgia

There’s always a reach. I don’t think Campbell should go in the first. I think this is another A.J. Terrell/Damon Arnette situation where, failing to trade down, the team just goes ahead and gets their guy because they know he won’t fall to him in round two. Campbell is a physical freak of nature at cornerback right up until the moment the ball arrives. The traits he is lacking are all coachable. You can’t teach his level of athleticism or size. If this comes to pass, Giants fans, just be patient. Take the laughs in stride and check back with the haters in a season or two.

20. Chicago Bears — Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, S/LB, Notre Dame

I’ve had them on the McCorkle Express right up until the final hour. A positionless defender similar to Isaiah Simmons or Jeremy Chinn, JOKer and the Bears are going to need to take some time and figure out where he works best. Regardless of his primary role, Owusu-Koramoah will have a solid veteran to rotate with at either safety or linebacker, though I think the former is where he ends up.

Tons of directions for the Colts to go here. Carson Wentz could use some help, so could that front seven. But Newsome gives them a true CB1 who can take time to adjust to the NFL behind veteran Xavier Rhodes. It’s not the most pressing need but down the road it might be the one that pays off the most. Especially in a division with Trevor Lawrence.

22. Tennessee Titans — Teven Jenkins, OT, Oklahoma State

I normally never have this much confidence in a pick in the 20s but if he’s there, he’s the pick. Book it.

23. New York Jets — Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech

A player with an extensive injury history is always polarizing. Some people don’t seem to account for it at all. Others will remove the player from their board altogther. I think Farley will fall somewhere in the middle. I think there are teams out there that will overlook some injury concern in favor of scheme fit — which the Jets do here with Farley. The Jets are desperate for a cornerback and it wouldn’t surprise me if they took a different guy at 23 too. Bryce Hall is developing into a solid CB but they lack a true #1 and any resemblance of depth.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers — Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame

The Steelers talking about a runningback while their offensive line looks the way it does is questionable. There’s putting the cart before the horse and then there’s neglecting to even bring the horse and just sitting in a motionless cart wondering where it all went wrong. I’d like to think the Steelers are smarter than that and can recognize they don’t need to be the first to rush and draft a RB in order to fix their run game.

25. Jacksonville Jaguars — Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU

The Jaguars safety group in 2020 was a mess. Going into 2021, it’s a deep mess. They have six players who pretty much anyone would love to have but hate to start. Andrew Wingard showed some promise last season and deserves to be at the top of the rotation, but the Jags have to address this position and get themselves a true S1.

26. Cleveland Browns — Azeez Ojulari, EDGE, Georgia

I don’ think the Jadeveon Clowney signing changes this pick. Clowney and Ojulari are very different players. Adding Ojulari gives the Browns flexibility in their front seven and takes some pressure off their newly assembled secondary.

27. Baltimore Ravens — Terrace Marshall Jr., WR, LSU

Let Lamar Cook.

While not as sound of a pass rusher as Barmore, he makes up for it by being the superior run defender. His stats may not blow away but his disruptiveness sure will. He may not get on the stat sheet every down but he definitely makes his presence felt.

29. Green Bay Packers — Elijah Molden, CB, Washington

The Packers cornerback play has been lacking and it shoulders a lot of blame for ending their 2020 season. No, this doesn’t change the fact that Kevin King will have to see the field sometimes, but it does add more versatility to their secondary. Molden can play safety but aligns best as a true nickel. Run defense is sometimes an overlooked aspect of a corner’s game. Molden is one of the best run defenders in the draft at his position — on top of being a disruptive corner.

30. Buffalo Bills — Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina

There’s been a lot of talk about the Bills drafting a runningback. I’ve gone back and forth on the issue and I’ve settled on this — I have no idea. But I can’t say ??? so I’m going with the Bills taking the most well-rounded back in the draft. Brieda is a non-factor at this point and Singletary or Moss can be moved. None of them can change the game like Javonte does. He doesn’t just lead the class in missed tackles, he eviscerates it. Excluding Najee, he had 29 more missed tackles last year than the next guy. That alone is more than half of the class had all-season.

31. Baltimore Ravens — Jayson Oweh, EDGE, Penn State

With their extra first-round pick, the Ravens can afford to take a prospect as raw as Oweh. His athleticism is unrivaled in this class. He would immediately fill a hole left by the departures of Judon and Ngakoue.

Grant is well-rounded and pro-ready. The Bucs retained pretty much everyone from their Super Bowl run and can do whatever they like here. A safety duo of Winfield/Grant would be elite.
