Interview With CTO of Dragonglass Project — Gleb Skibistky
We finally managed to corner our always busy CTO Gleb Skibistky, as his calculating brain usually has no time to spare for us mortals. All jokes aside he’s a proper genius and a great colleague. Here’s the interview:
Mert: How did you come up with the idea for Dragonglass?
Gleb: The initial idea was to make a token with a unique distribution method, to have an alternative for the usual crowd sales and airdrops. This is how DGS token “mining” was born — smart contract generates new tokens for our contributors. At the beginning I called it Proof-of-Usage. Later on I met you, Mart. You suggested to add gamification to the mining process and so Dragonglass was born.
M: Are you a gamer?
G: Yes, I am! I played Overwatch a lot before Dragonglass. I mained support and was in a diamond tier. But I haven’t played much during the last few months because I have a lot of things to do for Dragonglass. Sometimes I still manage to find some time on road to play Zelda on Nintendo Switch. Oh and I played a lot of crypto games but that was research for work.
M: What games inspired you to create Dragonglass Miner Game?
G: I cannot say exactly, probably some 2D “Minecraft” clones and “Downwell”.
M: What formal training do you have?
G: I started programing when I was 8. I started with WEB development and used very simple applications for Windows, then took up game development with Adobe Flash. Understanding how games work allowed me to create and sell cheating software and different bots for online games. Basically, all my formal training is self-learning and a lot of experiments, projects. After finishing school I tried to study at university, but gave up due to low quality of education.
M: Do you have plans to create more games?
G: Of course! This is what Dragonglass team is working on right now. We want to build a few games connected with each other via blockchain technology.
M: Since Dragonglass project is so unique, weren’t you a bit scared to make the first crypto game?
G: Yes, I was. Dragonglass game is not just the first project of its kind, it had to be the first widely available crypto game build with Unity engine. So I was more afraid of technical difficulties rather than business development or the game concept.
M: How long does is take you finish a Dragonglass Miner level?
G: Depends on the level. The first 3 levels are simple and designed in a way to let the player better understand the game, not to challenge him. It takes about 5–10 seconds for me to finish each of them. The higher levels take much longer, I never complete them on my first try.
M: Thanks for your time, see ya!
G: Bye!
