Today is the big day that we announce our answer to the question that so many have wondered: “What blockchain will be the home of Dragon’s Crossing?”

We are happy to announce that Dragon’s Crossing will be launching on Arbitrum. While the selection was heavily debated and discussed amongst the team, we feel this will be the best home for Dragon’s Crossing and its community. Let us explore some of the reasons why we decided on Arbitrum as the home for Dragon’s Crossing.

What is Arbitrum?

The Arbitrum network is a layer 2 feature developed to address the congestion of the Ethereum network. The platform leverages the security provided by the Ethereum mainnet, but allows smart contracts to run on a separate layer to reduce congestion within the network. This occurs through a technique called “transaction aggregation” where a batch of transactions and records are validated on lower layers and then moved to the layer 1 mainnet (i.e. Ethereum mainnet).

Why Arbitrum?

  • Total Value Locked (TVL): This is a measure of the total value of all digital assets deposited into a protocol’s smart contracts. This is also referred to as the amount of liquidity in an ecosystem. We believe Arbitrum sets itself apart as the number 4 largest chain in terms of TVL, trailing only behind (1) Ethereum, (2) Tron, and (3) Binance Smart Chain. The next largest chain by TVL has only 50% of the TVL of Arbitrum (based on data from DefiLlama at the time of this article). A chain with higher liquidity provides the opportunity for a healthier game ecosystem.
  • Volume: We believe that volume on a chain is also an important indicator of ecosystem health. At the time of this article, Arbitrum is second in volume only to Ethereum mainnet.
  • Users: Because we wanted Dragon’s Crossing’s accessibility to be undeterred, active users was also an important metric. At the time of this article, Arbitrum leads as 7th among all chains in terms of active users.
  • Ethereum Base Layer: Having Ethereum as the base layer of the chain, Arbitrum has several advantages. First and foremost — it is able to leverage the security and adoption of Ethereum while solving for some of its pain points (particularly chain speed and transaction fees).
  • Speed and Gas: As a layer 2 solution, Arbitrum’s gas fees are significantly less than base layer Ethereum. Cointool.app allows one to compare current gas prices and transaction speeds against other chains and it’s clear that the amount of Ethereum needed for a transaction on Arbitrum is a fraction of the amount needed on the base layer.
  • Momentum: We also believe that a chain’s momentum is important to the success of the protocols that build on it. We believe that Arbitrum will be one of the biggest players in the industry and that its recent success sets the protocols building on Arbitrum up with an opportunity to thrive.

*Disclaimer: Any metrics noted above are based as of the time of this article, and these statements are based on the team’s beliefs and expectations at the time of this article. Dragon’s Crossing undertakes no obligation to update these statements to conform to actual results or revised expectations.
