RED HOT SCORING AT YOCHA IN THE MAY GRAY

Even as we bundle up in the “May Gray” in the Bay Area, the Dragons are putting up some red hot numbers. The second tournament of 2018 season was spiritly contested out at the fabulous Yocha Dehe Golf Club last weekend. Pleasant conditions with excellent greens greeted the Dragons at this modern gem at Cache Creek.

Down in the B Flight, John Park stayed white hot with a blistering 88/net 65 to take 1st low net in the B flight. He edged out rookie Li Fan, who is settlign into the club nicely with a 96/net 66. The off-season did the old guy’s shoulder some good, as Mike Gui came in third at 85/net 68. Net par got Rob Dang (88/net 72) fourth place.

Same story up in the A Flight, as another rookie, Thomas Corbat put up an 81/net 67 and beat Steve Tsang (78/net 67) in a card-off for 1st. Paul Loui took Field Low Gross honors with his 73/net 70 and finished 3rd low net. Mike Lum, always lurking, finished fourth with 75/net 71.

How hot was the scoring? All but two of the 10 net skins were won by anything less than a net eagle. It took a double eage on №17 for Li Fan to take a skin home. The shot of the day in the KP Contests came from the A Flight, where Steve Tsang knocked it to 1'1" on the Par 3 Fourth Hole, a good reminder that there is in fact a Dragons GC Hole-In-One prize, and it is once again accruing with every Dragons GC tournament entry.

So, with two tournaments in the books, John Park has now established a clear lead in the Dragon Cup points list with 400 points. In a bumper crop of rookies this year, Fan Li is top rook and 2nd overall at 240 points. Another rookie Tom Corbat is tied with Peter Lyu at 232 points.

But things can flip just like that as we swing into the prime of the Dragons GC season. TheWeekender Santa Barbara will certainly present a couple of stern but very scenic tests inSandpiper GC and Rancho San Marcos. Mel Kiper Jr tells us (ha ha) that Captains Mike Lum and Davis Lee probably have Li Fan as the №1 pick on their mock draft board right now, as John Park has yet to enter the Weekender field. One thing for sure, they’re not picking Lawrence Ma, who is attempting yet another come back from whatever it is that afflicts him.

REGISTRATION deadline for both the WEEKENDER and the Draft and June tournament at Lake Merced are both coming up fast — June 10. With the limited field at Lake Merced, and a hotel block deadline for the Weekender, members are strongly encouraged to get on dragonsgolfclub.org ASAP and get it done!
