Each year, a deserving employee is nominated from every ODRC facility for selection as the Correctional Educational Association’s (CEA) Teacher of the Year. The nominees are chosen as a result of their outstanding service to correctional education. Richland Correctional Institution's nominee for 2018 is Ken VanBuskirk.

Mr VanBuskirk’s is a carpentry instructor that has nearly 30 years of correctional experience working in various capacities, which includes serving the agency as a corrections officer and maintenance employee. He has over two decades of teaching experience and has work within RiCI’s education department over the past four years. His nomination for this award will be considered along with fellow correctional educators from Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC), Ohio Community Based Correctional Facilities (OCBCF) and Ohio Department of Youth Services (ODYS). The winner of the CEA Ohio Teacher of the Year will be announced at the 2018 Annual CEA Ohio Conference and Training Event that will be held this September in Dayton.

CEA is divided into nine regions internationally. One winner will be selected from each of the nine Regions. Each of the 2018 Regional award recipients will be recognized next year during the CEA International Conference
