As incarceration rates in Ohio continue to increase, it can be easy to define those behind bars by the six-digit identification number that connects them to their crime. Yet, there are many offenders who are using their incarceration as a time to change the trajectory of their lives — to make sure they leave prison as a better person than when they arrived.

For Darrin, his time behind bars has been spent working hard to become the father and husband his family needs.

Darrin’s incarceration has been particularly tough for his wife and children, even resulting in a prolonged stay at a local homeless shelter. To ensure he never puts his family in this situation again, Darrin has taken advantage of the opportunities provided for him in prison to create a foundation for which to build upon once his mandatory sentence is completed.

ODRC Voices sat down with Darrin to discuss the struggles, revelations and redemption he has experienced since his incarceration began.

Join us as we get to know Darrin — not as the man who got incarcerated, but as the man he has worked hard to become.
