Lady GaGa, Justin Timberlake, Melissa McCarthy, John Malkovich, Jason Statham & Justin Bieber… what do they have in common? They have been stars of this year’s Super Bowl commercials break & made their appearance before millions of viewers. The New England Patriots have won with the Atlanta Falcons, but there are some IT commercials that have won our heart big times. Advertising in IT? Here’s how to do it.

Be like John Malkovich (.com)

John Malkovich calling JohnMalkovich.com is obviously related to a great motion picture “To be like John Malkovich” and there would be no better actor to draw into these shoes. Domains are created on daily basis, with hundreds registered at a blink, so spreading the message through the soothing voice of Malkovich is a big plus for the company.

The home automation giants

The giants, Google and Amazon, went for home automation tools. Promoting Alexa based Amazon Echo and Google Home is a definite sign of future AI development, and a destination mark for all the other IT companies around the world. While Amazon kept it’s commercials funny & short (social media like Twitter easily catch up on such content), Google made a longer video, showing American homes, the different cultural background, the warmth of the family events, and crucial moments of our lives, that happen in home. The backline story is implicit in: “Home by you. Help by Google”, but a strong emphasis on various heritage that american families carry.

Build your website with action-movie’s heroes

Frankly, regardless the great actors that played in the commercial, this one is the weakest ad on our list. The message does get through, but… well, leaves a dry filling in your mouth. Ok, create great websites, while the world around you is exploding — I’m sure not only WIX could do that. That’s why we are left of with a rather bland impression, this commercial could be literally about anything.

Welcome to the internet, I’ll be your guide

How to place the most important memes of the past years and make a great commercial out of it? GoDaddy has a method for it. As an internet hosting company, they have not only didn’t placed they service in the ad, but they transmitted the most crucial info — GoDaddy is the internet, so there could be no better place to launch your website. The short internet video was designed to zoom in, you can watch it all over again and find new clues and objects such as Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing conference pin.

Don’t fall while doing taxes!

A mobile app TurboTax has launched a commercial based on the known Humpty Dumpty tale, with a digital egg that was doing taxes, while walking… on a wall. A great English-like humor is ended with a line on the app itself. We see the broken egg in a hospital, answering the question that was around from the first second. Why Humpty Dumpty was doing taxes? On a wall? Because he can.
