Still feeling warm and fuzzy after your mind blowing DF14 experience? Think you can handle even more reasons to feel good about attending Dreamforce this year? Most importantly, are you ready to dust off your #GreenHero cape?
Well, you’re in luck! A dream team of event planning superstars have been working hard to make Dreamforce the most sustainable yet. This means conserving resources, sourcing responsibly, reducing waste, and inspiring our attendees to do the same. And, for the first time, Salesforce is not only offsetting 100% of its on-site carbon emissions, we’re also investing in a Sacramento River Basin conservation project equal to 100% of the amount of water used at Dreamforce.
More Key Numbers and Green Highlights
Gallons of water conserved by minimizing beef and bottled water at Dreamforce
Salesforce’s headquarters and the Dreamforce campus are in California where there’s a severe drought. To conserve water during Dreamforce, we’re minimizing water-intensive products like beef and single-use plastic water bottles, saving 5M gallons of water. Yes, 5M gallons!
But what does that really mean? Such a large number is hard to wrap your head around. Well, we’re conserving about 5 gallons for every person who lives in San Francisco. It’s also the amount of water it takes for 200,000 people to take a shower.
The number of pieces of plastic in our oceans
On a planet where everything is connected, the health of our oceans is intimately linked to social and economic well-being. We’re thrilled to have an amazing lineup of panelists on Friday of Dreamforce who will dive (pun intended) into the reality of our oceans and discuss the exciting role innovation has to play in ocean conservation. Panelists include inspirational environmental leaders Dr. Douglas McCauley, Wendy Schmidt, and Boyan Slat. Bloomberg’s Stephanie Ruhle will moderate. Make sure to add this to your agenda!

Dreamforce supports San Francisco’s zero waste goals
We’re striving for zero waste at Dreamforce. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes to reduce, reuse, recycle, compost, and donate. You’ll notice our lunch boxes (and everything inside) are 100% compostable. We’ll also have Green Angels around campus promoting recycling and composting.
For the first time ever, attendees can be Green Angels! Buddy up with a Salesforce employee to man a lunch waste station and help attendees recycle and compost. No special knowledge required! We’ll make sure you have the info you need. Each shift you work keeps 100s of gallons of valuable resources out of the landfill. And you’ll get a sweet Green Angels t-shirt as a thank you! Just search “Green Angel” in Agenda Builder.
Top 5 #GreenHero Tips
Of course, we can’t do it alone. Small actions really do add up, especially when thousands of Dreamforce attendees are involved. So kick your green super powers into high gear with these 5 easy tips.
- Take environmentally friendly transportation See all your options from BART to bike valet here.
- Recycle and compost. SF is a zero waste city and we want to make sure we’re doing our part.
- Refill your water bottle instead of buying bottled water. Save half a gallon of water every time. You’ll get your water bottle at registration. There will be refill stations all around campus.
- Say no to hotel laundry service and save 10 gallons. It takes a lot of water and energy to do a daily wash.
- Join Sustainability at Dreamforce group. This is the place to go for all things environmental.
